Re: Spelling
You are wise not to stress spelling at this point. However, why not find out what words are important for your student to
learn to spell? These could be street names, words that relate to your students goals, or even words your student has heard
on television. Your student should only learn to spell two or three words at a time. Once he/she has mastered them, be sure
to provide opportunities to use them. You might want to keep a list of words he/she knows. This way, you can satisfy your
students desire to learn how to spell by introducing a small number of relevant words.

Spelling
My student believes that good spelling means good reading. I've tried to explain that once he begins mastering reading,
spelling will follow. However, this answer doesn't satisfy my student. How should I deal with spelling?

Re: Writing
The most important thing is the student learn to get her ideas down on paper. It is far less important that she learn to write
cursively. In fact, unless your student expresses a desire to learn cursive writing, just make sure she knows how to sign her
name. Concentrate on the more creative aspects of writing and let her continue to print.
