Searching for Local Heroes

Since 1991 the Literacy Coalition has been supported in part by the community’s support of the annual United Way campaign. Generally, the allocation was large enough to cover salaries and rent, items traditionally hard to fund with grants and individual donations. We are so appreciative of all of their help over the past thirty years.

Unfortunately, the United Way has declined to award us any funds for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2021. Effective July 1, our monthly support from the United Way will drop to $0/month. While we do plan to reapply next year and we hope to receive funds for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2022, we are currently focused on the dramatic budget shortfall we’re facing for July 2021-June 2022. The loss of support from the United Way on top of not being able to have events such as Dancing with the Stars last year has put us at serious financial risk to be able to continue our programs and serve the community

We know so many you have given to us through their UW contributions over the years. Now we are asking that you donate directly to the Literacy Coalition. We need your support.

We need to generate an extra $3,500 a month. We are asking that this year instead of writing your one-time donation of $100, $250, or $500 check you instead set up an automatic payment through your bank for $10, $25, or $50 a month to be sent directly to the Literacy Coalition, 901 S. Courtland Ave., Kokomo, In. 46901.

If you prefer to do just a one-time gift you can use the donate button on this page. Either way, you become a local hero!

Help us continue to offer free services to those learning to read, speak English, or preparing to take a driver’s, employment of HSE/GED test. We cannot do it without your support.
